Federal prosecutors have indicted Hunter Biden. The son of current President Joe Biden, on tax and gun charges. This comes as former President Donald Trump has four different criminal cases including his hush-money case, classified documents case, election interference case, and the Fulton County case. Two of the counts carry a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, while the third has a maximum of five years, totaling a maximum of 25 years in prison. Each count also carries a maximum fine of $250,000. The case is overseen by special counsel David Weiss who is also heading the investigation.
Weiss was appointed by Trump and was kept as the U.S. attorney for Delaware because of the unique and sensitive nature of an investigation into a President's son by the Justice Department. The indictments come as a plea deal fell apart. David Weiss was named special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland just last month after the plea deal negotiations collapsed.
This is happening in parallel to an impeachment inquiry by House Republicans to seek bank records and other documents from the President and his son.
