Big strike day in Greece

Protestors gather outside the Parliament in Athens (9/21/23)

A record number of labor unions and Work Centers participate in today's Panhellenic General Strike organised by PAME (All Worker Militant Front). Even though the sold off ΓΣΕΕ leadership (General Workers Confederation of Greece) decided against participating, the workers joined the streets declaring their opposition to the new employment bill set to pass. The bill, that is integrating EU directions into Greece's legislation, contains the continuation and expansion of flexible working hours (zero hour contracts, on demand employment etc.) without rights, practically eliminating overtime pay and forcing people to work 13 hours a day, 78 hours a week in multiple employers to get a living wage. Additionally protecting the strike and attacking scabs "psychologically" gets criminalized with the offender being heavily fined or jailed. This is why the bill is being called "an abomination that is bringing us to the Middle Ages" by workers. Instead they're demanding decent wages to survive the high prices, stable employment 7 hours a day-5 days a week.
